Peeling off old skins

22/08/2019 – Personal Reflections : – Re-Inventing Oneself – Peeling off the Old Skin.
Fact: Some snakes (Not so sure about the King Cobra, but certainly the Pythons) do shed off or peel off the Old Skin at certain stages in life. There are several YouTube Videos of how Snakes Peel off their skins. You may wish to watch if you are not scared of Snakes like I do. Caterpillars 🐛 we are told if we don’t fry them in the pan may turn into Butterflies. I just wonder why we eat Caterpillars and not Butterflies. That is for another day. Back to the topic. The process of peeling off the skin by the Reptiles and metamorphosis by Caterpillars into Butterflies is the Nature’s way of “personal rebranding”. Similar to human beings who decide to abandon or move away from the past, confess, repent, be born again, be anew, leave behind the old ways and start afresh. Repenting YOWA Sins and be a better person, in the eyes of the Lord and Society at large.

In life, and in your professional career, there comes a time when you feel, you are either tired, or your employers start feeling tired of having you around and you risk being part of the furniture or be retired in National or Public Interest. Your value and contributions to the Company, Institution or Organisation is no longer felt or has any impact whatsoever. You could be away for 2 weeks or 1 month and no one ever notices your absence! You start calling back your fellow employees while on leave to try and find out whether your MD/CEO ever asked about you and the answer was NADA. Then it is high time you considered reinventing or rebranding your self. The peeling off the skin or reinventing oneself into a useful citizen. There are several ways. You can start looking for other opportunities within the organization or elsewhere. Either upgrade yourself by studying or learning some other skill sets. Your Grade 12 Certificate of 1970 is no longer valued as such when there are thousands of UNZA and CBU graduates looking for the same job you have been manually performing without taking keen interest in learning Computer Skills. I mean you have been on the same Desk for 15 years without any promotion or salary raised and your annual bonus is never considered unlike your friends. The Inflation has eaten up your income and the purchasing power has dwindled whilst the a 25kg bag of corn/maize mealie meal has skyrocketed to K150 as of today. Your Salary has been stagnant and the fraud, theft, corruption, bribery loopholes you thought you could have been tightly plugged and permanently sealed. The writing on the wall means the employers are indirectly insinuating that you look 👀 for you own exit strategy as Human Resources is avoiding to pay a Severance or separation package for you. Ask HR Gurus and they will confirm that this is one of the strategies to constructively dismiss you by mentally torturing and emotionally frustrating you into resignation instead of termination of your contract!

Just bear in mind that when you start something new, you’re not going to do it very well at first. You could be rusty by now, Lol. Don’t let that stop you. Give yourself permission to do it poorly at first. Give yourself the opportunity to learn through experience how to do it better. You will surely learn the ropes and the art of doing things correctly for the first time every time.

It may seem as if it is always hard to deal with injuries mentally, but I like to think about it as a new beginning. You and I can’t change what happened, so the focus needs to go toward healing and coming back stronger than before. – I have Paraphrased what Carli Lloyd said.

Don’t feel embarrassed about how inexperienced you are. Instead, be enthusiastic about how much progress you can make. Gain strength by acknowledging your weakness. Grow in knowledge and experience by admitting what you don’t know.

Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally. If you want to take responsibility for your life, you must choose one of those three options, and you must choose now. Then accept the consequences. – Eckhart Tolle advised.

When starting anything new, you have the great advantage of being able to look at it from a fresh, uncorrupted perspective. You don’t know all there is to know, and that enables you to see opportunities that more experienced practitioners have overlooked. Go ahead, jump in, do your best even if your best is not so great at first. You have lots of room for improvement, and as you continue, improvement is exactly what you’ll get.
